Vision Therapy

At Primary EyeCare Associates, we offer vision therapy in Sidney, Fort Loramie, and Troy, Ohio to treat vision issues that can’t be fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses alone. We’ve been providing this service for decades, and it remains one of our passions because of the profound impact it can have on individuals’ lives. Whether you’re struggling with visual issues, or your child is facing difficulties in school, our vision therapy team is committed to helping you find an effective solution.

What is vision therapy?

Even if you have 20/20 vision, you might still have issues with eye tracking, focusing, or depth perception. These problems can significantly impact your ability to read, focus, and perform daily tasks efficiently. For instance, if your eyes struggle to track moving objects smoothly, you might find it difficult to follow lines of text while reading or keep up with fast-paced activities. Similarly, problems with focusing can lead to eye strain or headaches when switching between near and distant objects, making tasks like studying or driving uncomfortable.

Vision therapy is a non-invasive, personalized treatment program that addresses these challenges using a series of eye exercises. Vision therapy is similar to physical therapy, but instead of working on joints and muscles, it focuses on retraining your eyes and brain to work together more effectively.

Vision therapy can help treat a range of eye conditions, including:

  • Convergence insufficiency: Enhancing the ability to focus on close objects.
  • Accommodative insufficiency: Improving how your eyes focus, making everyday tasks more comfortable.
  • Troubles with visual tracking: Helping the eyes move smoothly and accurately across a page or screen.
  • Concussion: Addressing vision problems that occur after a head injury.
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI): Supporting visual rehabilitation for those recovering from brain injuries.
  • Amblyopia (lazy eye): Strengthening the weaker eye to improve its function.
  • Strabismus (crossed eyes): Helping the eyes align properly.

Who can benefit from vision therapy?

While vision therapy is suitable for individuals of all ages, many of our patients are students who face challenges with reading and learning. Since up to 80% of learning is visual, having a well-functioning visual system is key to academic success. Vision therapy can be especially beneficial for students struggling with visual skills that impact their ability to read and learn effectively.

Get started with vision therapy

If you believe vision therapy could benefit you or your child, the first step is to schedule a comprehensive eye exam at Primary EyeCare Associates. During your appointment, be sure to let your optometrist know you’re interested in vision therapy. You can request a referral for a developmental vision evaluation, although it’s not mandatory. You’re welcome to contact our vision therapy department directly to schedule this evaluation after your exam.

A developmental vision evaluation involves specialized testing to assess whether vision therapy can improve your or your child’s condition. This thorough evaluation typically lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours and includes the expertise of both an optometrist and a vision therapist. If vision therapy is recommended, a therapist will discuss the available program options, scheduling, and costs, and will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Please give us a call today to schedule an appointment or to learn more about our vision therapy services in Sidney, Fort Loramie, and Troy, Ohio.
